Formal Elements and Principles of Design: In this self-portrait, there is a great amount of shading on Muñ. There is also a bit of shading on the left side of Muñ’s face. With this shading we can imagine that the light source is most likely in front of and to the right of Muñ and Muñ. The use of diminution is also present through the size difference between Muñ and Muñ. She appears to be smaller than Muñ allowing us to believe that she is behind him and farther away from the viewer. Overall, this portrait manages to convey an impressive, yet mundane scene using seemingly simple elements.
